MULTIMODAL MINDSET IN THE CLASSROOM – INTRODUCTION

The MSet project aims to raise students’ level of understanding of multimodal messages that they encounter in lessons and daily life. MSet also enables students to develop multimodal literacy skills using an innovative approach to ensure that they can accurately understand the messages that are communicated through various modes. The first result of the project called Multimodal Mindset in The Classroom is a curriculum that utilizes the values of Media Literacy, Digital Storytelling, and Creative Drama. Multimodal Literacy, Media Literacy, Creative Drama, and digital storytelling have common benefits such as improving creativity, critical thinking, concentration, and communication skills. Consortium members prepared a research report in these 3 areas and these national reports were compiled and became the source of “Multimodal Mindset in The Classroom”.

Multimodal literacy is a type of literacy that every student should acquire. Many texts are multimodal, which means that they convey meaning by combining two or more modes. Written language, spoken language, and meanings patterns that are visual, aural, gestural, tactile, and spatial are examples of modes.

Multimodal Mindset in The Classroom consists of three modules and a total of 12 units. Each unit contains content that will enable the messages conveyed by these different modes to be understood at the cognitive level. The Education Format includes content for teachers and educators working in school education to enable students to acquire Multimodal Literacy skills in the multimodal and digital world and focuses on increasing the competence of teachers and trainers in this field.
